Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic High School provides a private, Catholic, college preparatory education to promising students in grades 9-12 who cannot afford traditional private schools. Located in Ensley, the school offers a proven educational model for breaking the cycle of generational poverty to families throughout metropolitan Birmingham.

Holy Family students represent a broad diversity of religious faiths and cultures and all come from families whose annual incomes are less than the federal poverty level. The school provide a safe, effective and affordable educational alternative for families who want more for their children. Holy Family Cristo Rey graduates boast a 100 percent college acceptance rate.
Each student works one full day a week at a paid corporate internship as part of their curriculum. Proceeds from these internships are paid directly to the school to help underwrite nearly 70 percent of operating expenses and keep the school affordable for most families. And students have a unique opportunity to build enhanced resumes through verifiable corporate work experience and establish corporate relationships during their high school careers.

Upon acceptance to HFCRCHS, students are required to attend a specialized 12-hour program, Generation Next, facilitated by Dale Carnegie Training. Generation Next is designed to prepare young people for the real world by providing them the “soft” skills needed to reach their goals and live up to their full potential – at school, home, and work. Course content focuses on five key areas that are critical for future success: building self-confidence; enhancing communication skills; interpersonal skill development; teamwork and leadership skills; and effective attitude management. Developed with feedback from students, the Generation Next curriculum consists of highly interactive sessions that include real-life scenarios and role-playing.
